1788 British settlement

In 1770 Lieutenant James Cook was the primary European to visit New South Wales when he directed a review along the unmapped eastern bank of the Dutch-named mainland of New Holland, presently Australia. In his unique journal(s) covering the overview, in triplicate to fulfill Admiralty Orders, Cook originally named the land "New Wales", after Wales. In any case, in the duplicate held by the Admiralty, he "updated  thewording" to "New South Wales"

The primary British settlement was made by what is referred to in Australian history as the First Fleet; this was driven by Captain Arthur Phillip, who accepted the job of legislative head of the settlement on appearance in 1788 until 1792.
Following quite a while of tumult and political agitation after the oust of Governor William Bligh, another representative, Lieutenant-Colonel (later Major-General) Lachlan Macquarie, was sent from Britain to change the settlement in 1809.[15] During his time as senator, Macquarie authorized the development of streets, wharves, places of worship and open structures, sent pilgrims out from Sydney and utilized an organizer to plan the road format of Sydney. Macquarie's heritage is as yet apparent today.
